BHIM Aadhaar Payment App
BHIM, also known as Bharat Interface for Money, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi three months ago to provide a tool that can be a one-stop solution for all digital payments.
The BHIM Aadhaar Payment app is available on both Android Play Store and iOS Store. But For using this app the merchants will need to keep a biometric sensor connected to the smartphone for authentication; apart from signing in to the app after a KYC. PM Modi has also announced incentives for merchants deploying this new system. To start with there will be no extra charges levied on the payment, as with other digital payment modes like Debit card, Credit card or e-wallets. Then, the Merchants Discount Rate or MDR that is paid to the bank by the merchant will also be waived off.
How to download BHIM Aadhar Pay app?
Merchants would just need to download the BHIM Aadhaar Payment App from play store and connect their smartphones to the biometric scan machine to accept the payments from customers. The merchants would also be required to connect their bank accounts and register themselves on the app.
The application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store by searching for ‘Aadhar Pay’ and clicking the download link.
How it works?
Merchants would be required to download the BHIM Aadhaar Payment App on their android smartphone connected to a biometric reader. The biometric reader is currently available for just Rs 2000. If a customer wants to make payment, then he/she just need to enter his Aadhar Number in the app and select the bank from which the payment is to be made and use the biometric scan as the password for the transaction.
Upon entering the Aadhar Number, the app would automatically fetch the bank accounts linked with your Aadhar number, then the customer can make the selection of bank for payment as per his/her choice
Since transaction charges discourage adoption of digital payments, especially in small towns and rural India, the BHIM Aadhaar Payment App will levy no transaction fee on the merchant or the customer unlike the card based digital payments.
A secure app
According to the Niti Aayog, the BHIM Aadhaar Payment App is a safe app that uses two main platform Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB) and Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS). APB will act as repository between the banks and the customers to provide a smooth flow of transactions, while AEPS will help in authenticating the online process.
Aadhaar Pay comes with incentives for merchants and customers-cash back and referral bonus. Under the referral bonus scheme, both the existing user who refers BHIM and the new user who adopts BHIM would get a cash bonus credited directly to their account. Under the cashback scheme, the merchants will get a cashback on every transaction using BHIM. The government has an outlay of Rs 495 crore for the scheme which will run till October 14.
